Lyttelton Lighthouse Restoration | Commercial Painting

All Projects
This challenging commercial painting project involved a full-scale strip of the existing lead-based paint. This required us to wrap the scaffold installed to contain any flakes or residue and to avoid any environmental impact especially being so close to the water.

The 2010 Christchurch earthquake left the historical Lyttelton Lighthouse leaning over precariously after the foundations on which it stood sunk almost two metres.

It stayed that way for eight months, tilting at an angle of 15 degrees – four times that of the Leaning Tower of Pisa – until it was rescued in May 2011.

It was then carried by barge across the harbour to safe land and stored carefully until late last year when it was returned to it's rightful home. That's when our team of Master Painters came in to restore It.

With the lighthouse having such historical importance a lot of thought went into the operation and health and safety practices. The painting team completed an intensive lead paint removal and then gave the lighthouse a fresh new coat of paint on the exterior and interior.

Following the lead paint removal (which required strict adherence to our Health and Safety protocols) we applied a protective paint system as per the Dulux specification we requested for this job.
